Terra Cap™ General Installation Procedures

  1. Remove overburden from the ductwork to be protected and excavate next to the cable/duct down to the bottom elevation of the structure and prepare an area 24” wide on both sides by making the subgrade level from side to side.

    If ductwork for future cables is to be installed, place it adjacent to the original duct after the subgrade has been prepared.  
  3. Place the Terra Cap™ so that it is centered over the existing duct and is level from side to side. Install consecutive Terra Cap Panels and ensure that the ball and socket connection between the units is properly aligned.
  4. Cover each joint with a piece of butyl rubber sheet 3/16” thick and 6” wide centered over the joint.
  5. Final Step: If Terra Cap™ units are installed within a roadway or within 2’ of the edge of pavement, backfill and compact with granular trench backfill in accordance with local jurisdictional requirements and specifications.
  6. After the Terra Cap™ units have been installed, a survey shall be done to accurately locate and record the location and elevation of the installation.

Project Specific procedures will be prepared in conformance with local jurisdictional requirements. Jurisdictional approval will be obtained by Terra Cap™ personnel prior to installation.
